In this workshop, you will build up a foundation of plaster, paint, and collage. You will then use the humble materials you have at hand to explore color and shape, light and shadow, and story-telling through imagery and mark making. You will start with exploring substrates for the best foundation and then follow with creating studies in texture and colored surfaces ready to receive paint. Mindfully working with and against the materials to create dynamic compositions, you’ll employ the power of personal inquiry to invite your singular creative voice to show up with courage and clarity. All this plaster and paint expression will be finished with luminous layers of wax that you will texture further for depth that can’t be achieved any other way. When you have completed your pieces as you follow along, you will have created luminous, visual stories of wonder and mystery. You can watch the trailer HERE.

Collage allows for us to find images that we may not be able to create otherwise. Looking through collected imagery; finding words, photos and pictures which illustrate your fears may begin the process of stepping toward them. There is power in a single line. One line can tell a story, express emotion. There is also a collected power of many lines, many colors, many marks. Lines and colors and marks often get away from us. We over-do it, or we don't know when to stop. In this class we will play and explore the ways to create chaos, and then play with the rules that I use to corral it into submission. We will work both large and small, starting in journals and small sheets of paper. Then we'll turn to large pieces of paper (or canvas, if you wish) and create ordered chaos on a grand scale. We'll do both figurative and abstract works. You can watch the course trailer HERE.

We will do all of this together in lashes of vibrant color and loose gesture, and as always in my classes and art, seeking the magic that comes when you allow yourself to be free of self judgment and comparison, open to happy accidents, and smack, bang in the middle of flow and possibility! You can watch the course trailer HERE.
